Solo Show in Shelburne Falls MA

Several years back I did a solo show at Mocha Maya's in Shelburne Falls Massachusetts. They recently contacted me again to do another show which I promptly said yes!!

If you have not been to either Shelburne Falls or Mocha Maya's both are really great places. I posted some photos of the work which is currently on display as well as some photo's my wife took at the Bridge of Flowers.

We also poked around a little bookstore in that area where I made this neat little discovery for $4!

Around and about the Brimfield Flea Market

Last Sunday Syd and I checked out the Brimfield Antiques Flea Market. I've never been to it and to be honest I didn't know what to expect...

...and I don't think I was ready for the sensory overload. Even for the last day of their Summer schedule and many of the vendors had rolled up days prior, it was still pretty well attended with a lot to look at.

Syd scored a phrenology bust (as seen above) and a bunny bank. She had got it because it was similar to one she had a kid. I found some piano music with ukulele accompaniment to a song from 1926 called WHAT A SMILE CAN DO. That was pretty much my big purchase for the day. A Del's Lemonade cart happened to be there so we shared a large cup of their famous frozen lemonade and One Love Cafe (located on 800 Main Street in the Woo) had a cart there too so we had jerked chicken and tofu respectively. It was the first time I had jerked chicken and we may have to visit their restaurant sometime soon. We also had some amazing handmade donuts. And I've never been a huge sweets type person. But these were great!!

I also happened to snap a shot of a vintage Narragansett Beer Bottle.

We also ran into several of our friends walking about that day too.

All in all it was a fun day out without breaking the bank. And we're thinking about checking it out when it starts up again in September.

New Years in Northampton

Well, after staying relatively local and nearly getting killed getting a table (even after making reservations earlier in the week) at Bauhinia's Restaurant last year. Syd and I decided we'd spend New Years in Northampton this year.

Some friends of ours were going out there for New Years and asked if we wanted to meet up with the for dinner and drinks afterward. I have mentioned in the past my undying love for the city. I even spent my night out before the wedding there on a mini barhop.

The nice thing is everything is within walking distance. So you don't have to drive halfway across town to enjoy everything.

We decided since it's a bit of a hike for us to drive out there, why not make it into a mini-vacation out of the trip. It seemed ridiculous to drive all the way out there to drive all the way back at midnight. So we booked ourselves in the Howard Johnson for a couple of nights and do a little exploring on New Years day.

This will be our first trip since Newport. It'll be nice to get away and relax before our work schedules swing into high gear again.

Incidentally, I recommend going to Bauhinia Restaurant anytime other than New Years. It's probably one of the best Chinese/Japanese Restaurants in the area. And you really need to sit down and enjoy it's charm when it isn't so crowded.

Kitschy Crafty Craft Fair & Flea Market

The Good, The Bad & The Crafty is a group out of Western Massachusetts I met a the Stitches, Needles N' Guns Alternative Craft Fair at Printer's Building in Worcester a couple months ago. They were promoting their group and very first show out in Holyoke Kitschy Crafty Craft Fair & Flea Market which is coming up at the end of the month.

Taking part in art shows and conventions is part of the business for us comic artists. If you don't promote your work, people don't buy your work. It's as simple as that. And people like Jim Lee and Bernie Wrightson are constantly doing the convention circuit.

It's a great way to connect with other artists and potential fans.

Well, there's two things I love. Checking out new venues and Western Massachusetts. I try and get out to Amherst and Northampton as much as humanly possible. They are just great places to hang out, get a bite to eat and get a drink at places like the Bishops Lounge, The Tunnel Bar and my brand new favorite place to go Wiggins Tavern located in the Northampton Hotel!!

But more about that some other time...

I'm looking forward to this show. It sounds very similar to the Stitches show seeing that it's being held in an old warehouse. I think that was one of the things I loved about that show was just the funkiness of the part of the Printers Building it was being held in. This show is being held in a warehouse out in Holyoke. So, already I'm excited about the show!!

According to the site, there's still some spaces available. So, if you're an artist or crafter and you would like to take part in the show, shoot them an e-mail at: thegoodthebadthecrafty@gmail.com.

It's a very relaxing drive and like I said Western Massachusetts is such a great place!! Hope to see you there May 29th!!
