Art Auctions on E-bay

Howdy all!! I have a couple art auctions up and running for you all to check out. First up is my very first attempt at trying to illustrate 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi's retro look. Much like previous auction of this nature once a winning bid is met, a copy of the image will be made on 11x14 high quality carstock and signed personally to the winning bidder.

After that I will PERMANENTLY DELETE the file this image is on to ensure this to be ONE OF A KIND ART.

But not only will the winning bidder receive both the 11x14 color art and 9x12 pen and ink art, they will also receive a concept sketch I created several months back trying to imagine what Capaldi's Doctor might look like. The look is based on his appearance as Professor Marcus in The Ladykillers onstage.

The design THEY came up with was much better than mine. I admit.

Up next I'm offering a 16x20 art print of my newest illustration THE REALLY ROTTENS.... OR A GATHERING OF NO GOODNIKS. The title is derived from two sources. One is the name of the team the bad guys were on in the Hanna-Barbera series LAFF-A-LYMPICS. Which was an odd title since I really never laughed once watching it. The second source is what Boris Badinov would occassionally refer to himself as.

New Doctor. New Look...

Those who know me (or have read this blog) know what a fan I am of Doctor Who harkening back to the days when it was first being broadcast on WGBH Boston. I completely understand there have been people who have been fans of the show longer back than that. However, for most American fans, the shows original run on PBS in the United States in the 1980's was our first introduction to the Doctor.

As much as I have enjoyed the actors who have portrayed the Doctor in the current series, I am thrilled about Peter Capaldi being cast as the Doctor. Its good to see an older actor being cast as the Doctor again. I use that term very VERY loosely because I do not consider 55 to be old.

But I think the program needed that change. Especially since the past two actors who have taken on the role had been on the relatively young side.

And I like the Doctor's new look as well. It very much reminds me of Third Doctor actor Jon Pertwee's look without the ruffles. Which was infact an accident. Pertwee's intention was to dress like The Master's Roger Delgado (seen to the right). Pertwee had shown up to a press call for the show in his Grandfather's old clothing. And the producers like the look so much on him that it stuck.

Now the maddening part is we'll have to wait till August or September to get our first glance at Peter Capaldi in action. However we do have Sherlock to pass the time right now.

Peter Capaldi: The Twelfth Doctor

Now that it has been announced that Peter Capaldi will indeed take over the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who, now we have to wait several more months to find out just how his Doc will dress.

I thought I'd have a bit of fun and do my own little concept art of how I would design a costume for his Doctor.

The inspiration for my illustration comes from two different sources. One was a comment made by someone on Facebook that if you were to put a mustache on Peter Capaldi he would look remarkably like Peter Cushing's Dr. Who from the Dalek films. The other source is Capaldi's costume as Professor Marcus from a recent stage adaptation of the film THE LADY KILLERS.

So, I took elements from both those sources and put them together. The cravat, pince nez and fingerless gloves were inspired by Peter Cushing's Dr. Who while the grey button-up long-sleeve cardigan, long black coat and long grey scarf are inspired by Capaldi's Professor Marcus attire.

The walking stick, spats and classic series Sonic Screwdriver my own little additions to the look.
