Want to promote your work better? START A BLOG!!

Why should I? I'm not famous. Nobody is going to pay attention to my work so what's the point?

And if you approach your art, writing, films or music with that attitude nobody WILL EVER care about your work.

Besides being famous is NOT the point of having a blog. The point of having a blog is to promote your work. And you're not going to do that by keeping it stuffed away in a box under your bed or just sitting around complaining about people you perceive to have more success than you.

You need to put the blinders on and focus on your own work.

Despite any lacks in self-confidence you may have, the truth if you are ever going to make a name for yourself professionally you need to take that risk and promote your work.

Even if it means being attacked by people online. And it very well may happen. Sadly, it's one of the downfalls of having the world at your fingertips.

The internet has made many of these gutless very brave. It's very easy to attack someone from behind a computer monitor a million miles away. They can gleefully rub their hands together as they string together their scathing retorts from the comforts of home.

And it makes it all the easier to do it anonymously. Sure it's cowardly but that's what you're up against. We've all dealt with it at one point or another.

The truth of the matter is, the more you put your work out there, the more you deal with stuff like that.

But you shouldn't let these people stop you.

You have every right to promote yourself and find an audience for your work. This is where you need to have confidence in your talents to ignore the barbs and put your work out anyways.

There is an audience for everybody. Including your work.

What kind of blog can you start? Well, just about anything. Don't limit yourself. You don't have to feel limited to just promoting your work. Let them get to know the artist. This doesn't mean you have to post your telephone number, e-mail and mailing address. That can be dangerous. What I'm saying is talk about what music you are currently listening to, a favorite hang out where you like to get a burger and beer... or a burger and soda if you're under 21. Talk about favorite movie or even plug a friend's project.

You may even talk about you political or spiritual views on your blog but you need to be careful of that too. Freedom of speech allows people to speak their minds. However, it should be noted many people have ended up on the unemployment line due to badmouthing the place he works on someone posting a very suggestive photo of them drunk at a party on Facebook.

Like I said, you have the freedom to do these things. But just remember they may come at a very high price.

If you have a project you're working on but you don't have publisher why not put it out as a web comic?

My friend Andy Fish did that for his Dracula project and he did an amazing job breaking it down into comic strip form. Another friend of mine A-Town Krolikowski is going to be doing that with a project as well.

In the end you may have enough work to compile into a book which you can either shop around to various publishers or publish it yourself through places like Lulu or Kablam.

But above all, take a chance. You'll never know unless you try. And to quote Spike Milligan: "Don't let the bastards get to you".
